FERN YIP

From her wild journeys, Fern knows that deep nature connection is essential to living both soulfully and meaningfully on this earth. She finds immense joy in encouraging others to find their own naturalist passions and meaningful relationships to the earth by awakening curiosity, exploration, and play. She brings a naturalist’s keen awareness, a dedication to the practise of ancestral and bushcraft skills, and over ten years of experience instructing at nature schools and ancestral skills gatherings.  Fern enjoys many earth-based ancestral skills but has a particular love for tanning hides, tracking, foraging for food, and herbal medicine. Compelled by the vision of creating nature connected culture, Fern is honoured to guide others on their deep nature connection journeys.

Previous to founding Earthkin Wilderness School and Earthkin Gathering, Fern has been a nature mentor for youth, teens, and adults in the Salish Seas area with the Wisdom of the Earth Wilderness School on Salt Spring Island, Thriving Roots Wilderness School in Victoria, CAHOOTS on Salt Spring Island, and the Palisades Outdoor Stewardship Centre in Jasper National Park.

She is a graduate of the 2-year Wisdom of the Earth adult program; holds a BA  in environmental studies from Quest University Canada; a diploma from the University of Victoria’s Restoration of Natural Systems program; a certificate in herbal medicine from the California School of Herbal Studies and is a certified Wilderness First Responder.
