LOCATION & TRAVEL

We are located on Anderson Lake, BC on  KM23 of the Highline Road/Anderson Lake Road between D'Arcy and Seton Portage. The Highline Rd. is an unpaved mountain road. A 4x4 or AWD vehicle is best for getting here but it is still possible to get here in a 2x2 vehicle. From Vancouver, it takes 4-4.5 hours to get to the site. Attendees are strongly encouraged to carpool. Check out the FB rideshare HERE.

PARKING OPTIONS

On-site: This parking option is $30. It is for 4x4 vehicles only. Follow the signs that will guide you down to the registration tent where someone will greet you, get you registered and help you park.

Top of the Driveway: This option is for 2WD (that can’t make it down the driveway). There will be a radio at the top of the driveway. Radio when you arrive and someone will be up shortly to shuttle you down to your camp spot.

Seton Portage: If you have a 2WD, you won’t be able to make it down our driveway. Please email us directly to set up a shuttle time and to get specific instructions. A shuttle will run on Saturday June 28th and Sunday June 29th between Seton Portage and the gathering site. It will run again for departures on Saturday July 5th. Please email earthkingathering@gmail.com to arrange your shuttle time with the heading ‘Shuttle Request’ and make sure to bring cash to pay for the shuttle ($10 one-way adults, $20 one-way family).

Rideshare:

We strongly encourage participants to carpool. You can contact other participants who want to carpool through the Facebook group ‘Earthkin Ancestral Skills Gathering’. Link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1447731226091723

CAMPING

There is no car camping available, plan to camp in tents or other shelters. There are two main camping areas, one is more shaded than the other. Generally the weather is sunny and in the mid twenties but the sun can get very hot and there is always the chance of rain so we recommend bringing tarps or shade structures as well as a tent.

There will be no cars in the main gathering/camping area. You will be able to drive by and drop your gear at your campsite before parking. If parking on-site your car will be parked a 10-15 minute walk uphill from the camping-sites/main gathering area. For those parking at the top of the driveway or shuttling from Seton Portage, we strongly recommend you don’t leave anything you need during the week in your car as it will be hard to get to- we will be shuttling your gear to the campsites on the arrival day only.

The gathering is a week of remote camping on off-grid lands. You will need to be prepared to be self-sufficient. Vitals: shelter, bedding, toiletries, food for breakfasts & lunches, bowl/plate, utensils, knife & sharpener for classes, water containers, first aid kit, cash and/or trade goods for bartering. See WHAT TO BRING for a more in depth list.

There will be designated areas for using camp stoves. Please keep your camp tidy and in order. Prepare to take all personal trash and recycling home.

FOOD

We are providing dinners so that we can come together around a shared meal everyday and have more time to focus on learning and teaching. The first meal is Sunday June 29th dinner, and the last is Friday July 4th dinner. Our dinners will feature  local, wild and organic foods with both meat and veg options.  Lunch and breakfasts are up to you! Please note that it will likely be very hot so bring mostly non-perishables that will last the week. Bring your own bowl and/or plate, drinking vessel, and utensils, these will not be provided.

All meals will have a way to avoid wheat and dairy, but we cannot say any of our meals are completely celiac friendly, nut-free, or soy-free being that we cook all meals in the same kitchen, using the same utensils.

FIRES

This year we are anticipating a fire ban during the gathering. Please respect any fire bans during the gathering. In the case there is not a fire ban on, there will be a strict no personal fire policy for this gathering as it is taking place in July and this is a very arid environment where the risk of forest fires is high.  If you are using a camp stove to cook, you will have to do so in the designated cooking areas- there will be no cooking in the campsites.

WATER

Drinking: The water here comes from a mountain spring. It has been tested and is beautiful, potable water. The water has a high calcium content, so it is normal for there to be white flakes or residue from it. You will be oriented upon arrival to the location of the spigots around the property where you can gather your water from

Bathing: The lake is the best place to wash though we ask that no soaps or any other products be used in the lake to protect the sensitive aquatic life.

ELECTRONICS

In a time where electronic devices are in most everyone's lives, we ask that you are discreet when using your cell phones. Amplified music and electronic sound of any kind are prohibited.

GARBAGE

Please produce minimal garbage and bring your own garbage bags: you will be taking out what you bring in. There will be no trash receptacles at the gathering.
