Canis grew up in a homeschooled family in the remote mountains of BC and the far north and gained a deep awe and wonder for the more the human world at an early age.

He started hunting and climbing in his early twenties and spent many seasons in the big mountain ranges of BC, trekking and climbing, solo and in a team. Presently he works as a big game hunting guide, and also guides long alpine and off-trail wilderness trips for youth and adults. He is an avid tracker with a focus on wild cats, cougar in particular.

Canis is also a martial art practitioner and instructor with a special interest in teamwork, modern survival, tactical skills and natural movement.
